This song was inspired by a trip to Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, a very picturesque village associated with tragedy (including the 1998 Swiss Air Flight 111 recovery mission and connection to Titanic recovery as well ).
John Grant provided all of the instruments as well as background vocals for the song.
Lyrics
Through a glass darkly we see and are seen
Through the fog of our lives like a hazy dream
Off this rocky shore we’ve weathered such storms
Have seen through the wreckage, each a story to tell
Da da da…
The lighthouse through vapors we strain to see
To gather our bearings and behold beauty
Like sea glass we tumble through churning seas
That soften our edges to a frosted sheen
Da da da…
And I find there’s beauty in the mist
And I find there’s beauty in the fog
And there’s beauty in this seaside harbor that’s seen it all
